This glaciated trek is a more remote companion to the classic Chamonix to Zermatt Haute Route. The tour is a journey across the Bernese Oberland from West to East, crossing high passes and staying in some rarely visited huts along the way.

The week commences at our hotel in Grindelwald on Friday evening, in order to check gear and arrange equipment hire, prior to an early start the following day. On Saturday morning we drive to Griesalp near Kandersteg, for our first two days of walking to the quiet Mutthorn Hut via the Gspaltenhorn Hut. The following morning we cross the Petersgrat and descend to Fafleralp, before continuing to the Anen Hut in the heart of the Oberland. A long day! Then we walk across spectacular glaciated terrain to the Hollandia Hut. There is the option to climb the Abeni Flue (3,962m) the following morning, before descending the Grosser Aletschfirn to the Konkordia Hut (2,850m). On day 6 we head south and east to the Finsteraarhorn Hut. On our final day, we exit the range via the Fiescher Glacier and Rotloch, ascending the Galmi Glacier to Oberaarjoch (3230m), before descending the Oberaar Glacier to Oberaar See and finally, the Grimsel Pass. From here, we drive to our hotel in Grindelwald.

The Oberland Traverse is suitable for those with previous British winter walking experience, who would like to traverse one of the wildest mountain ranges of the Alps. Team members need to be fit as there are some long days. Overall, the ground covered is different to our Oberland 4,000ers week, so the two weeks combine well.
