21st February - Lean conditionsHere are some images from earlier in the week. It was cold again in the middle of the week, but now it's stormy! There's also a shot of the Jagged Globe van and two of our key personalities, Ed Chard and Andy Owen.
14th February - Photos from the first few weeksHere are some images taken in the first few weeks of the courses. They include climbing on Aonach Mor and Curved Ridge on the Buchaille.
30th January - Just back from ScotlandI have just returned back from Scotland today, having dropped off the equipment at the start of last week. This past week I have been doing my MIC training and though it has been warmer, teams have been out climbing and enoying themselves. Ed Chard will start to post despatches in the next day or so. About this CourseBack in November, it was already looking like 2008 was going to be a season to remember for Scottish Winter Climbing. Difficult first ascents were being 'put up' on Ben Nevis very early in the season, as snow fell and ice formed on Britain's highest mountain.
Our base in Ballachulish, just near the mouth of Glencoe is ideally placed to give quick access to the mountains of Glencoe, as well as Aonach Mor, the Mamores and Ben Nevis. With conditions already looking good, some of our Snow and Ice courses look set to climb on the dripping ice climbs of Creag Meagaidh. The Ballachulish Hotel is an unmistakable landmark on the shores of Loch Linnhe and is the best hotel in the area. The success of our courses is in no small part down to the quality of the instructors and guides that we employ. Directed by Dave Walsh and Ed Chard, many of our regular expedition leaders, such as Andy Chapman and Mungo Ross work alongside Alpine Guide, Andy Owen and full-time Jagged Globe staff member, Adele Pennington. Based in Ballachulish itself, Dave Hanna is a familiar face on our Intro Courses and continues to be a key member of this tightly knit team. Out instructors are Scottish Winter enthusiasts, who also have a vast amount of worldwide mountaineering experience. Between them, they have climbed most of the peaks contained in the Jagged Globe Expeditions brochure! |
