Baruntse

Trip Reports

Our first expedition to Baruntse was in April 2000 and was successful with four summiteers. The following two expeditions, both of which took place in the spring time, experienced heavy snow and a problematical crevasses, which barred access to the upper mountain.

Recently Baruntse has been climbed by commercial teams in the post-monsoon season with some success. We have therefore decided to organise an expedition in October/November 2009, which will access the mountain via the Barun Valley. This is a fabulous approach route to a little-travelled area and, when combined with an exit route over the Mera La, provides a superb circuit.

If you are looking for an exciting mountaineering experience on a 7,000m peak in the heart of the Himalayas, you might well consider Baruntse.
