The Venues
Tignes (December courses)
At 2,100m, with lifts from 1,550m up to 3,400m. The 'Espace Killy' provides unlimited skiing in extent and of superb quality. Long gentle runs for those trying telemark and plenty of steeps, deeps and off-piste for the more expert. By mid-December the links to Val d'Isere are open, there will have been powder on the glacier for over 2 months and the majority of lower runs will also be skiable.
Les Crosets (January courses)
At 1,600m, with lifts from 1,000m up to 2,300m. Les Crosets is at the hub of the vast 'Portes du Soleil' ski area with 650kms of pistes stretching over 2 countries. The scope and variety for all levels of skier is legendary. Les Crosets itself is a quiet, small resort set in a bowl of snow with direct links into the rest of the ski area. January usually has the best powder snow - and the smallest queues!
Cervinia (March/April courses)
At 2,050m with lifts from 1400m up to 3883m (!). Being a high altitude resort snow is guaranteed right through April - in fact all year, on the glacier ski area! The terrain at Cervinia is especially good with lots of space for 'tentative telemarkers' and acres of little-known off-piste for those looking for greater challenges. The skiing spreads over 3 resorts, Valtournanche and Zermatt, in addition to the extensive skiing at Cervinia.
Lift passes
Tignes £120 (Espace Killy); Les Crosets £100 - £120 (Portes du Soleil), depending on buying through hotel or direct; Cervinia £163 (Cervinia & Zermatt)All prices approximate depending on exchange rates.
