Carstensz Pyramid Summits!

We have heard this morning via text message from the leader, David Hamilton that he and his 3 team members all reached the summit of the highest peak in Australasia/Oceania this morning. The agent backed this up with a little more information in that they all reached the summit within 5 minutes of each other, at around 09:40 local time this morning. They are now all resting back at BC and tomorrow will begin trekking back to Sugapa.

Carstensz Pyramid is the most mysterious of the Seven Summits. Rising from the dense tropical jungle of West Papua, reaching the base of the mountain is a major challenge in itself. This remoteness, combined with government restrictions, political instability in the region and frequent tribal warring, has meant that few people have climbed it since the first ascent in 1961. It is undoubtedly one of the most adventurous, exciting and uncertain trips that you can do.

Well done to David and crew, hopefully we will have a summit photo soon as it was reported to be a lovely sunny day.
