Scotland update

Tony Halliwell has sent this update:

"Yesterday (Thursday 27 Feb) Jagged Globe had teams spread out wide in the West Highlands. There was a team on Tower Ridge, a couple on Ledge Route, one on the East Ridge of Beinn a Chaorainn, plus teams on Am Bodach in Glen Coe.

The Snow and Ice climbers went to Stob Coire nan Lochan. Susie, climbing with Gareth - and Lieven, climbing with Tony, found perhaps the best conditions in the coire when they climbed Spectre. This route is normally graded V,6, but under deep snow which had turned to solid neve, the climbing was probably high end of technical 4, but with no protection between belays was probably around V,4 (see photo - above). Ten metres to the left, two teams had to abseil off Scabbard Chimney because of unconsolidated conditions and ripping tools.

The weather has turned colder and Friday is forecast to be a good day with a frost in the glens. "

There are still places available on our Scottish Winter Courses, which run until the end of March. The 'word on the street' is despite recent thawing, there is so much snow up high that there's going to be winter conditions right into April!
