Introduction
If you climb regularly on an indoor wall, but have little or no experience of climbing outside, then this course teaches you the skills to make that transition and become a self-sufficient climber. You will learn how to use of a variety of outdoor venues and during the weekend you’ll climb on a variety of different rock types (3 or 4). With an Instructor to Climber ratio of 1:2 you also have the flexibility to try multi-pitch climbing if you wish.
Who is it for?
Indoor climbers who can tie in to a harness, lead indoors, lower off and belay, but who have little or no experience of climbing outside.The course teaches you the following
- How to transfer your indoor movement skills onto real rock.
- How to select appropriate gear to build belays, set up top ropes and make you self-sufficient at your local crag.
- How to select the right gear to build your climbing rack (Cams, Nuts, Slings and Quickdraws/Extenders).
- Safety systems (for example, the ‘buddy system’).
- The mental aspects of climbing outside.
- Guidebook interpretation.
- Crag etiquette.
- Emergency procedures (for example, retrieving jammed gear).

- 2 nights' bed and breakfast accommodation in Betws-y-Coed, on a single room basis.
- Instructional fees based on the optimum student to instructor ratio for the activity being undertaken.
- Road transport to fulfil the course programme.
- All group climbing equipment, such as ropes and other technical equipment.
- Rock shoes (if required), harness and helmet, when booked in advance.
What the price does not include
- Transport to the course base (Betws-y-Coed).
- Lunch and evening meals.
