A rugged high mountain trek through Peru's Cordillera Huayhuash – one of the finest treks in the world

Introduction

Peru's Cordillera Huayhuash is a dramatic 30km mountain range running from north to south, home to llamas, alpacas, viscachas and condors. Our trekking route circumnavigates the entire range, crossing seven high passes. The ice-fluted peaks of the Nevado Siula Grande (made famous by Joe Simpson's book, Touching the Void) and Yerupaja (Peru's second highest mountain) rise above rolling grassy meadows, moraine and steely blue-green glacial lagoons. This is unquestionably one of the finest high-altitude treks in the Andes, if not the world, which is suitable for fit walkers. We have been visiting Peru since the 1980s and have a superb local team, who we have been working with for over two decades and who will ensure you are well looked after. On this trek your camping gear is carried by burros (donkeys), so you carry just a light pack each day.

Trek the Huayhuash Circuit with us

  • One of the classic South American treks
  • Cross high passes up to 5,000m and camp beside cool mountain lakes
  • Views of Siula Grande, the scene of Joe Simpson's epic 'Touching the Void'
  • Optional 7-day Inca Trail and Machhu Picchu extension
  • Excellent acclimatisation profile
