The best of Patagonia: visit the Fitzroy Massif, Perito Moreno Glacier, Lake Grey and Torres del Paine National Park
Introduction
The distinctive granite spires and colossal calving glaciers of Patagonia in Southern Chile are unique. Despite the notoriously unsettled weather, their rugged beauty draws mountaineers, adventurous trekkers and wilderness travellers from all over the world. This two-week trip takes in the highlights, with moderate trekking through breathtakingly wild scenery. The tour begins with a flight via Buenos Aires to El Calafate. The following day you travel to El Chalten at the base of Fitzroy and embark on a four-day trek in the national park, visiting Cerro Torre base camp. You then return to El Calafate and visit the Perito Moreno Glacier, the 3rd largest glacier in the world before driving the legendary Route 40 to the Torres del Paine National Park. Here you spend three days walking in the shadow of these huge granite monoliths and visiting Lake Grey, where the glacier flows down 60km from the Patagonian Ice Cap and calves into the lake. Finally, your visit Puerto Natales, a picturesque fishing town located on the shores of the Ultima Esperanza (Last Hope) fjord, before returning to El Calafate and flying home. There is the option of extending your trip by two days to visit Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego
