Climb the world's highest volcano and one of the Seven Volcanic Summits
Introduction
Ojos del Salado is the second highest in South America after Aconcagua. It is also the world's highest volcano and the second highest mountain on earth outside the Himalayas. On this expedition you will climb Ojos del Salado from Chile following our tried and tested itinerary.
Join us on Ojos de Salado
- Experience organising 5 expeditions to Ojos del Salado
- 2 days set aside for a summit attempt
- Limited load carrying required
- Good preparation for Aconcagua
Experience Required
Ojos del Salado is a tough mountain due to its high altitude. However, with enough time to acclimatise properly, it is not as serious as Aconcagua and would be a good step up from Kilimanjaro. To join this expedition and have a good chance of success you will need:
- To be mentally prepared for the rigours of a desert environment with extremes of heat, cold and wind on a high and exposed mountain
- A high level of fitness, determination and robustness, with experience of previous arduous, high-altitude treks or climbs to at least 5,500m
- Experience of wilderness camping
It is preferable that you have:
- Previous experience of using ice axe and crampons in winter conditions
Our Scottish Winter Courses and our Alpine Courses provide good preparation for this expedition.
