Ski Mont Blanc Extension

Saturday to Wednesday, 3 full days skiing
Introduction
The highest peak in western Europe, Mont Blanc is a spectacular spring ski mountaineering objective. Technical and serious but never extreme, skiing Mont Blanc is the highlight for many a ski mountaineer. This is an optional 'add-on' for those who have done the Swiss 4000ers week. You will be well acclimatised and in the groove for technical ski mountaineering at altitude following a week in Switzerland, so this could be an amazing way to end the season. If Mont Blanc is not in condition we will choose a suitable alternative such as the Dom or other challenging summit.
Course base: Chamonix
Outline Programme
| Day 1: | Transfer to Chamonix (not included). Briefing on Mont Blanc. |
| Day 2-3: | The guides will pick the best two days, based on the weather forecast. An ascent and descent of Mont Blanc on ski is a true mountaineering challenge, requiring a high level of fitness, solid mountaineering skills and highly dependable ski ability born of the experiences of multiple previous trips. We aim to climb by the "Arete Royal" to the Dome du Gouter from the Grand Mulets hut, giving us a safer but technically more challenging line of ascent than the Grands Mulets route which is exposed to falling ice. We will descend by the Grands Mulets route reducing our exposure to its hazards in descent by passing quickly under the ice cliffs. The length of day, terrain, environment and hazards are not comparable with a summer ascent, a ski ascent being much more demanding. |
| Day 4: | Spare day. |
| Day 5: | Dispersal. Breakfast is provided the last morning before leaving the course. |
