Climb Ausangate Peru

An adventurous 6,000m mountain in Southern Peru
Introduction
Ausangate is located in the Cordillera Vilcanota, in Southern Peru. It is reached by flying from Lima to Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire, then trekking in from the village of Tinke. Ausangate is the highest peak in a range that sees far fewer visitors than the more popular Cordillera Blanca in Northern Peru. Because of this, the area feels a lot more adventurous and may appeal to those looking for an interesting 6,000m peak away from the crowds.
Join us on Ausangaet
- Ausangate is climbed alpine style using Peruvian IFMGA guides at a 1:2 ratio.
- Expedition in May/June when the weather is best in Southern Peru.
- Acclimatisation on Jampa Peak (5,500m).
- Visit the famous 'Rainbow Mountain'.
Experience Required
To join the expedition and have a good chance of success, you must have:
- Climbed Scottish Grade III routes.
- Climbed Alpine AD or equivalent, along with experience of rock climbing on exposed terrain.
- A good level of fitness, having prepared for the expedition with regular mountain walking throughout the months preceding the trip, including Grade I scrambles.
- Experience of climbing above 5,000m is preferable, but not necessarily a requirement for those with a solid background in the European Alps on routes of AD.
Our Winter Mountaineering course in Scotland and our Alpine Courses provide good skills preparation for this expedition.
