Rock Climbing and Scrambling
List Trips
"As always the course is 100% all about how we can achieve our aims / wishes. No matter the weather / conditions. Long days with a great sense of achievement at the end of every day. Incredibly flexible - we asked for some time on 'emergencies / rescue situations / problem solving' with a view to climbing ourselves, and this was again delivered with incredible enthusiasm. Tapping into seemingly endless knowledge, it was tailored perfectly for us. Neither too much, nor too little".

WalesIntroduction
Jagged Globe offer rock climbing and scrambling courses of progressive difficulty in Snowdonia National Park, North Wales. Our Scrambles for the Alps course is designed for walkers and winter mountaineers who would like to tackle rock terrain prior to joining a course in the Alps, such as the Haute Route, Alpine Introduction or Gran Paradiso Summit.
Rock Introduction provides a foundation in the skills of rock climbing and is also suitable for indoor climbers who would like to make the transition to outdoors. Classic Rock targets routes up to VS on some of the many venues accessible from our base. The Skye Munros week is based in the Black Cullin.
All our courses are taught by professionally qualified Guides and Instructors who have an intimate knowledge of the areas and climbs. Most of them are also familiar faces on Jagged Globe Scottish Winter Courses, Alpine Courses and Expeditions, and can advise you about your future climbing and mountaineering.
Why rock climb with Jagged Globe?
Our global reach and expertiseEstablished in 1988, as well as rock climbing courses, Jagged Globe organises worldwide mountaineering expeditions, Alpine mountaineering courses, Scottish Winter Courses and Ice Climbing. Our office is staffed by active climbers, with many years’ experience of rock climbing in Snowdonia and all over the world. They can advise you about the courses, equipment and what you can expect from your time in North Wales.
Flexibility - we tailor the course to give you what you want
A list of outcomes gives you a starting point for what you can expect to have learnt on completion of each course. However, we don’t just roll out a set programme. At your initial briefing, the Instructor will identify precisely what it is you hope to gain from the course and tailor it to your needs. A high Instructor to climber ratio (1:2 on most courses), gives you more flexibility and ensures you have the opportunity to do this. "From the very beginning and throughout, every part of each day felt to be specifically chosen to suit what we asked and were able to do. Challenging, but not too hard that it became unenjoyable. Worked with the fact that Emma and I were looking for slightly different things and climbed at different levels. Each day was excellent."
Quality and value
Our ethos is to maximise your time in North Wales. We want you to learn as much as possible, to climb on a variety of rock types and to come away feeling like you have had an action-packed experience. We do not finish the day at 4pm like many centres, so remember to pack an extra sandwich as you’ll need the energy to squeeze in that final route! The course price includes single room, bed and breakfast accommodation.
Our Instructors’ depth of experience extends far beyond Snowdonia
Not only will your Jagged Globe Instructor have an intimate knowledge of the rock climbing venues on offer in Snowdonia, their climbing experience extends far beyond their local cliffs to the Alps and beyond. They might have led expeditions to the Himalaya and to the summit of Mount Everest, or to Mount Kenya, one of the most-sought after high-altitude rock climbs in the world. Their enthusiasm for worldwide climbing is only matched by their enthusiasm for Snowdonia, and the incredible variety of rock climbing here. It is why they choose to make it their base!

Extending your course
If you are planning to join one of our courses, you may wish to take advantage of what you have already learnt with a day or two of private guiding at the end of your course. Obviously, there is plenty of opportunity to discuss with your instructor how to gain maximum benefit and enjoyment from your private guiding days. This ensures that the additional days get off to a good start, as your instructor already knows at what level to pitch the climbing and instruction. Consequently, guiding days following a course offer an excellent chance to consolidate and extend what has been learnt already under the personal supervision of a qualified instructor. What is achieved during private guiding and the pace at which it is undertaken is very much between yourself and your instructor. The instructor aims to give you the most satisfying climbing and private tuition possible.Equipment
A detailed kit list is sent to you with your Booking Confirmation. We provide all communal climbing equipment for each course, including ropes and leader-placed protection. For all courses you need to provide your own clothing and some items of personal equipment including rock shoes* (not required for scrambling course), *harness, *helmet and belaying device.*These items are available to borrow from Jagged Globe, if booked in advance.
