NEW Africa Treks - Kilimanjaro via Umbwe Route and Mt Kenya

We are offering two new treks, in Tanzania and Kenya. Kilimanjaro - Umbwe Route climbs nearby Mount Meru, then treks to the summit of Kilimanjaro via the Umbwe and Barafu routes. The Umbwe Route is a very direct way of meeting the southern circuit at Baranco Camp and as such, is rarely trekked as you need to have acclimatised elsewhere beforehand. We have used this route on our Kilimanjaro - Western Breach mountaineering trip, since 1994. On Mount Kenya, we are now offering the Chogoria route to Point Lenana (4,985m), the trekkers' summit. This means we make a full traverse of the mountain, including two nights spent at Lake Michaelson (4,000m) for extra acclimatisation (most people have one night here). This is the most beautiful campsite on the mountain and a fine place to spend a full day exploring. Our first Mount Kenya trekking trip is on 28 December and will run alongside our climbing group who will be attempting Mount Kenya's other summits - Nelion and Batian.
