Bolivian Climber summits

In mid-July we had a team visit Bolivia's Cordilerra Real, led by Andy Chapman. On the whole the mountains were in icier and steeper condition than previously. After climbing Pequeno Alpamayo in the Condoriri Valley, they moved on to the first 6000m peak - Huayna Potosi. From a high camp they left for the summit at 2am, reaching the top and descending in a 12-hour round trip. After a rest in La Paz, some of the team continued to Illimani (6,462m). It took them 5 hours to ascend to high camp, with a section of fixed rope utilised before high camp. Summit day started at 2am, with conditions icier than in previous years, they fixed more rope than normal from 6,200m on the traverse that leads to the summit ridge. They reached the top of Illimani at 8.30am before descending to complete a 13.5hr round trip. Well done to Andy, local guides Chino and Heber and to the team!
