Summits for second Elbrus team

Two members of Ian Barker's 18 July Elbrus expedition summited the west peak, with seven members reaching c5,300m on the col between the two summits. The team delayed their summit bid by a day to make the most of a better weather forecast, however, having arrived at the col in good time, a snowstorm engulfed them. In visibility of less than 10 metres, they dropped down out of the wind for shelter. Afyter about 30 minutes the weather began to clear and Mark and Giles opted to carry on to the summit with Russian guide, Boris. Ian descended with the rest of the group, arriving back at north huts in a 10-hour round trip. The summiteers took a further 5 hours to summit and return in improving weather.
