Mera and Island Peak - 5 October to 3 November 2002

Written by Leader John Armstrong, November 2002

The team endured some wet conditions during the walk in to Mera BC, but enjoyed good conditions during their ascent when five of the ten member team summitted.

After the busier days in the Mera area the team enjoyed the solitude of the Hinku Valley as they trekked towards the Amphu Labsa passed the newly opened and impressive trekking peak of Hinku, destined to perhaps become a feature of the Jagged Globe program in the future.

After a 3am start the traverse of the impressive Amphu Labsa went smoothly and the team enjoyed a well deserved rest at Island Peak BC.

The ascent of Island Peak, in perfect conditions, saw eight members summit in the company of nine members from the Khumbu Climber group with two leaders which was a total of nineteen Jagged Globers on top in the company of several other groups from around the world.

Today,Tues 29th Oct 2002 sees the group enjoying the comforts of Namche Bazar and looking forward to returning to the Summit Hotel in Katmandu and on to London Sun 3rd Nov.
John Armstrong, Expedition Leader. Namche Bazaar, 29 October

"The best thing about the whole expedition. John Armstrong was marvellous - strong, unobtrusive leadership and good company. The climbing Sherpas were charismatic and really added something, the camp staff service was better than a 5 star hotel." CP - Mera & Island Peak IV « | »
