Khumbu Climber - 6 April to 5 May 2002
Written by Team Member Peter O'Shea, December 2002
As I had never been higher than 4,300m before, this was quite an experience. The itinerary was ambitious to say the least. The first three peaks (4 in total), are close together and are reasonable achieveable in just over two weeks. And, yes, thanks to fairly reasonable weather in the first two weeks, we were able to climb Pokalde, Island Peak and Lobuje East without much delay. The weather did delay us on Lobuje and since we took an extra rest day after Island Peak, it left us short about a day to attempt Parchemo. We all agreed that trying a peak, that's five days walk away from Lobuje, our third peak, was just never going to happen. The last week was spent trekking around and killing time. The weather at this stage became quite a bit more unsettled and probably would have made an attempt on Parchemo too difficult. Of the 12 clients, 7 reached the summit of the three peaks we attempted. 10 summited each peak. Thanks are due to all the Sherpa team, without whom we would never have achieved our summits. I was one of the 7 reaching all three summits. It was a great experience and Jagged Globe have proven an excellent company to travel with.« Previous report | Next report »
