Trip Reports

Stok Kangri - 26 July to 16 August 2003

Written by Leader, August 2003

All ten team members reached the summit of Stok Kangri on 10 August, accompanied by Ladakhi guide Rigzen, Nepalese Sherpa Nima and the UK leader, Peter Thompson.

Some members of the team found the climb harder than expected, but thanks to a determined effort, we all reached the top together at 8.45 am.

The acclimatisation trek through arid but many hued valleys also went smoothly due to the efficient and friendly Ladakhi staff.

Needless to say, perhaps, that the group enjoyed strolling through the streets of Leh and visiting some of the renowned Buddhist monasteries which surround the town.

Other highlights were staying in Delhi’s top hotel, the luxurious Imperial, an eye-opening cycle rickshaw ride through the teeming streets of old Delhi and a visit to the Taj Mahal to round off a varied trip.
