Stok Kangri - 28 July to 18 August 2001

Written by Leader Alan Ward, January 2002

Twelve team members summitted on this Stok Kangri expedition which was led by Alan Ward. Three ropes set out for the top on summit day at 3 a.m. with our Nepalese Sherpas. They were soon donning crampons and walking up easy angled neve slopes. We used fixed ropes to the left of the rock band and the summit ridge was gained at 8 a.m. Just an hour and a half later, the top was reached in perfect weather, with the Karakorum clearly visible to the northwest and two father and sons teams clearly delighted at being on top together. Our Sherpas placed new prayer flags on the summit. All the Sherpas however, were shocked when a member of another organised group stripped off in front of the flags. After a safe descent, the group arrived back at base camp at 1.30 p.m. for a well deserved rest! Thanks to our local staff and Sherpas for their fine efforts on this trip. « | »
