Ski Bolivia

Introduction

Guide, Jim Blyth writes:
" I have a penchant for mountaineering at sea level. Skinning from the beach has its attractions. That said almost every year it’s nice to ski at higher altitudes and there is a trip with one big mountain in most ski programmes. This year we had a great time on Mt Elbrus (5,642m) and for 2018 the mountains of Bolivia will be graced with our tracks.

Everything on this trip, even the arrival at La Paz airport at 40,61m (the exact height of the Gran Paradiso), takes place at altitude. We will be camping, not necessarily on snow, packs will be heavy on many days and there will probably be as much mountaineering as skiing. Expect the unexpected as the mantra goes.

The weather should be perfect – cold & sunny, and the views should be stunning. The snow, at the end of the wet season, should be good for skiing. The programme is fully flexible but we plan to acclimatise while skiing 5000m mountains before going for one of two high peaks Mururata 5869m or Parinacota 6342m one of the highest volcanic cones in the world."

Start point: La Paz
Grade: 10D (Please contact us to discuss your skiing ability with Guide, Jim Blyth)

The Team
The group will consist of a maximum of six skiers along with South American expert John Biggar and Jim Blyth.

Flights

When the time comes we can help you choose flights. It would be good if everyone were to arrive at roughly the same time. Jim will almost certainly fly out a day or two earlier to start acclimatising.
