Skiing in the land of the Berber – the High Atlas of Morocco
Introduction
This trip gives you the opportunity to ski tour to several 4,000m peaks including Mount Toubkal (4,165m), the highest mountain in North Africa. Few week long ski trips offer as much cultural interest, discovery and quality skiing as this one. Delicious fresh food, mint tea and ski touring with mules – not to be missed!
What to expect
Skiing in the Atlas is an adventure and everyone needs to be prepared for the occasional discomfort. Skiing is usually on spring snow and it is uncommon (but not unknown) to ski crust! We will be staying with Mohamed in Imlil and in basic but comfortable huts. You will hike and ski with light day packs as vehicles, mules and porters will be used when we need to move heavier kit. This will be Mountain Guide, Jim Blyth's seventh trip to Morocco and the first since late March 2010 when the photos on this trip page were taken. Late January to early March is the best time for skiing in the Atlas. There is no alcohol.
